The Painter’s House is where Joan Abelló was born in 1922. Over the course of his life, he collected thousands of works of art and objects of all kinds, forcing him to expand the space and annex the neighbouring houses, transforming the complex into a fascinating house-museum. The Painter’s House is a gem just waiting to be discovered.
The Painter’s House is not your typical house-museum. It immerses visitors in Abelló’s bohemian, cultured and carefree life; one filled with excesses, objects, culture and travel. It is a work of art in itself.
The tour, which takes visitors up and down stairs to different rooms and floors, sheds light on Abelló’s universe: painted ceilings; walls brimming with art; display cases filled with miniatures, porcelain objects and stained glass; dresses and mannequins from different periods and places; furniture; Asian art, African art and items related to bullfighting; and paintings, sketches and sculptures by some of the most prominent artists from the 19th and 20th centuries, including Joaquim Mir, Sorolla, Picasso, Brossa and Dalí.
