A Stolperstein block located at the site of the former home of the mayor executed by Francoist forces.

The engraving reads: “Here lived Mayor Josep Fortuny Torrens. Born 1902. Arrested 15-02-1939, Model Prison. Executed 16-07-1939, Camp de la Bóta, Barcelona”

Each Stolperstein is handmade and unique and is a symbol of respect and humanity, a stark contrast to the mechanical and indiscriminate extermination of fascist regimes. They are produced by sculptor Michael Friedrichs-Friedlaender at his studio on the outskirts of Berlin.

The silver plaques commemorate the victims of Francoism, and the gold ones, Nazism. Josep Fortuny’s block was laid at the behest of the Majorcan Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory.
