In 1947, architect Francesc Vilagut was commissioned by the Gomà family, the owners of the land, to construct this majestic building for the production of cava.

This five-storey building became home to Xampany Gomà, which produced cava underground in facilities stretching as far as 2 km.

The company produced and bottled their cava and distributed it around Spain for almost two decades.

The building was purchased by the Municipal Council when the company closed, and during the 1980s and 90s, it was remodelled as the seat of the Can Gomà Municipal Theatre and Municipal School of Music and Dance, as well as a number of other cultural entities.
