Santa Maria de Gallecs
08104 Mollet del Vallès, Barcelona
VISIT: 3th sunday of the month, to 12 am from 14 am
This late Romanesque-style church, built between the 12th and 14th centuries, has a Latin cross floor plan and a single nave covered by a ribbed vault. Its square apse faces east. On the southern wall we find a stone baptismal font.
The church’s façade still preserves a window column with a typical 11th-century base.
The exterior walls are built from red stone. The bell tower was originally a bell gable, with two hollows for the bells.
The building is virtually untouched. During its restoration, between 1965 and 1969, a number of silos were found, along with Roman and mediaeval pottery.
