Gallecs, a green lung for the region’s inhabitants

Of the almost 734 total hectares which make up Gallecs, over 60% belong to Mollet and account for almost half of Mollet’s 11km2 municipal district. The remaining 285 Ha of Gallecs are divided among the neighbouring municipalities. Gallecs is therefore a green lung in a densely populated metropolitan area with a closely packed network of roads. This is why the rural area of Gallecs is today a Special Conservation Area (EIN) due to its rich landscape and agricultural and natural value. In efforts to preserve this value, its territory has been integrated into the Special Conservation Area Plan (PEIN).

Much of Gallecs is organic farmland, with crops that include grains recovered from old types of wheat, such as spelt, spring wheat, Montcada wheat (native to El Vallès) and Persian wheat, and garden products, such as “ganxet” beans, “menut” or tiny chickpeas and seasonal vegetables.

The trails, meadows and forests that dot Gallecs have become a popular place to enjoy nature, both on foot and by bike.
