Mollet Millennium Monument

A monolith comprised of a concrete block, aluminium plaques and corten steel sheets which makes various allusions to the city’s history and was erected to commemorate the discovery of the first known historical document (993) mentioning Mollet.

At the top of the monument is an M, for Mollet and Millennium. A stone inscribed with the year 993 symbolises the moment in which the city was settled as well as the hard work of its people, while the plate with four vertical edges is an allusion to the Catalan flag.

The Sant Vicenç Church and the Modernist fountain are etched into the concrete, which also features the sculpted image of a farmer with a sickle at his waist, a symbol of the city’s agricultural past; a man with a book, representing a present linked to culture; and a little girl, in allusion to the future.
